HOUSE NUMBERS

We would like to take an opportunity to make all residents aware of a recent ordinance passed by the Town of Highland Board to make it easier for the Emergency Services to find you - a "mandatory reflective 911 house number".

For the small fee of only $15.00 we can make you fully compliant with this law with a 6" x 18" reflective aluminum sign and 4" reflective numbers. Applications can be picked up at your Post Office or contact us at 557-8915.

ICE

A Paramedic from England has launched a campaign that is catching on nationally and across the globe as well. The idea is called ICE, which stands for In Case of Emergency. People should enter "ICE" in the contact list of their cell phones, along with the phone number of the person who should be contacted in case of an emergency.

WHEN SHOULD YOU CALL EMS?

Call 911 if Victim:

  • Is or becomes unconscious
  • Has chest pain or pressure
  • Has difficulty breathing
  • Is bleeding severely
  • Has pain or pressure in abdomen
  • Is passing or vomiting blood
  • Has slurred speech, sever headache
  • Is having a seizure
  • Has a head, neck or back injury
  • Has possible broken bones
  • Has been poisoned
  • Or if you have any doubts

Green Lights, Blue Lights, Red Lights!

Green Lights = Emergency Medical Services Volunteers

Blue Lights = Fire Department Volunteers

Red Lights = Police, Fire, EMS

You're driving down the road and hear a siren or see Green, Blue or Red lights...What should you do?

PULL TO THE RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*Pull as far to the right as possible, parallel to the curb or road edge and stop clear of any intersections until the vehicle passes or you are otherwise directed by police.

*Make sure your car stereo is not turned up too loud.

*Be alert at all times and especially at intersections. Most accidents involving police, fire or EMS vehicles occur at intersections.

*Use caution when reentering the traffic flow once the emergency vehicle has passed.
